Back to top. About this book This open access book aims to primarily support nurses as leaders and champions of multimodal, Interdisciplinary nutrition care for older adults. A structured approach to fundamentals of nutrition care across Interdisciplinary settings is combined with additional short chapters about special topics in geriatric nutrition.

The book is designed to provide highly accessible information on evidence-based management and care for older adults, with a focus on practical guidance and advice across acute, rehabilitation, and primary and secondary malnutrition prevention settings.

The cost of malnutrition in England alone has been estimated to be £ The importance and benefit of specialised nutrition care, delivered by experts in field, is well established for those with complex nutrition care needs.

However, despite the substantial adverse impact of malnutrition on patient and healthcare outcomes, specialised management of this condition is often under-resourced, overlooked and under-prioritised by both older adults and their treating teams.

As an alternative, timely, efficient, and effective supportive nutrition care opportunities may be appropriately implemented by nurses and non-specialist Interdisciplinary healthcare team members, working together with nutrition specialists and the older adults they care for.

Practical, low-risk opportunities should be considered across nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and monitoring domains for many patients with, or at risk of malnutrition.

Whilst a variety of team members may contribute to supportive nutrition care, the nursing profession provide a clear focal point.

Nurses across diverse settings provide the backbone for Interdisciplinary teamwork and essential patient care. The nursing profession should consequently be considered best placed to administer Interdisciplinary, multimodal nutrition care, wherever specialist nutrition care referrals are unlikely to add value or are simply not available.

As such, the book is a valuable resource for all healthcare providers dedicated to working with older patients to improve nutrition care.

Graduates are prepared to pursue a variety of rewarding careers in food and nutrition management including hospitals, long-term care facilities and retirement homes, hotels, restaurants, post-secondary institutions, remote mine sites, daycares and schools, food service sales and more.

Look for jobs in the food service departments of hospitals and long-term care homes, private care homes, in hotels, restaurants and catering companies, in primary and secondary schools, colleges, correctional facilities and retirement communities.

This program is accredited by the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management CSNM. For directions to become a certified nutrition manager, visit the CSNM website. Applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications for a program may be admitted if evidence of probable success can be established through an alternative admission assessment.

Applicants are automatically considered for alternative admission. However, some specific admission requirements may still need to be met. Some programs allow applicants to meet the admission grade level requirement using 15 approved post-secondary credits.

Review additional information. If the program applied to has specific course requirements, they may be met through alternative post-secondary courses. Review already approved courses that may be used for admission purposes for your programs.

When we determine that you meet the program's admission requirements, you will be offered admission based on the date you fully qualify for the program. The earlier you provide the appropriate documents and information that qualify you for admission to the next intake, the earlier you might begin your studies.

Your application, once qualified, is always considered for the next intake. Applicants to programs with multiple intakes in an academic year remain in the application pool until the last intake for that academic year has begun.

Programs using the FQFA process receive applications year round and maintain an application pool for each academic year. Qualified applicants who are not offered a seat must reapply for the next academic year.

Sponsored programs or programs targeted to specific groups do not accept applications year round or maintain an application pool.
