If germination is slower than a sloth on a lazy Sunday, ensure your temperatures are in the sweet spot between 75—85°F.

It's like setting the mood for a romantic dinner, but for seeds. Overwatering is the express lane to root rot city. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

Think of it as a moist towelette, not a wet bath towel. And remember, a sterile seed-starting mix is your best ally in the war against diseases. Healthy stems are your golden ticket to propagation success. Look for stems that are robust and free of pests or diseases. Using disinfected shears , make a clean cut just below a leaf node.

Let the cutting callous over for a few days before planting. This step is like a mini quarantine for your cutting, reducing the risk of rot and disease. Rooting hormone isn't mandatory, but think of it as a growth accelerator for your cuttings. Dip the cut end into the hormone to promote faster rooting and to provide an extra layer of protection against infection.

Plant your cuttings in a well-draining soil mix. Moisture is key, but avoid waterlogging , which can spell doom for your nascent Goji roots. If your cuttings are more flop than flourish, check for rooting issues. RHS Flower Shows ». Buy tickets. RHS Orchid Show 15–17 March RHS Orchid Show.

Leave two leafs at the top and remove the bottom leafs. Dip the bottoms of the cuttings in rooting hormone. I use dip and grow liquid hormone because I only need the one product and I can mix it as strong as I like.

Softwood cuttings does not require very concentrated rooting hormone, whereas hardwood cuttings require more concentrated solution.

Now it is time to place the cuttings into the planting medium. Push them into your planting medium about two inches down.

Your planting medium should be something that drains freely and easily. You do not want to saturate the soil where disease and pathogens will proliferate. These little cuttings will die if the leaves dry out.

The best way to do this is with a mist irrigation system that automatically comes on. I use the Galcon and have it programmed for 10 seconds on and 5 minutes off. This runs all day, but shuts totally off from 9 PM until 6 AM. The cuttings need to stay in the rooting medium until they go dormant. This usually happens by December or January timeframe.

Once they are dormant, they can be moved to pots or to their location in the yard. If you shop at Amazon , please go through our site.

I am normally propagating goji berries by seed. I will choose only large dried berries for it is important to germinate only the best seeds. I will soak big dried gojis for 5 minutes in water. Then I press the berry at one end and most of the seed will pop out at the other end.

I will open up the berry to get the remainder of the seeds. After collecting all seeds I will retain only the bigger size seeds. I will wash them and put them in warm water more or less 20 C. I will leave them in the water for 15 minutes and only collect the seeds at the bottom of the container with water.

Now they are ready for germination. That is my story.
