However, one thing many of them do have in common is that they can help with the management of anxiety. Let's start by looking at vitamin B1, also known as thiamine. This nutrient helps to convert carbohydrates into energy that your body can then utilize as a fuel source, so it's naturally a good one to keep in mind if fatigue is a problem for you.

It's also believed that B1 can help regulate your blood glucose levels which, again, can have a positive impact on anxiety symptoms.

Next, there's vitamin B3, or niacin. This is similar to vitamins B9 and B12 folate and cobalamin, respectively , which often work in tandem to help manufacture red blood cells and are speculated to be a good combination for low mood issues like depression.

Finally, there's vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, which helps release energy from the food we eat. This vitamin also supports the adrenal glands, thus reducing many of the symptoms associated with stress and anxiety. Bio-Strath is one complex we suggest to our customers here at A. The latest order came with a lid that is the same width as the container 4th picture. MUCH better design than the old narrower cap. It's so much easier to see inside and to spoon out product. Still love the product and use it every day My two earlier reviews are included below. I still love the product, but want to share issues with packaging and inventory control.

Packaging: the first picture shows how much product is wasted by not putting a seal on the bottle. If you get an unsealed bottle read on for why that might happen , I recommend opening the new bottle over a sheet of waxed paper and carefully tapping off all the product that is hung up in the cap and threads.

Then tap out any remaining product in the old bottle, and tip all the saved product into the new bottle. Inventory control: my last two orders were May and August Since the May bottle had a seal a nice improvement, except that the seal was very weak as noted in the earlier review , I was surprised that the August one did not.

Turns out that the August shipment was from an older lot! Based on the "Best by" dates, the August shipment was manufactured five months BEFORE the May shipment.

This would indicate that inventory is not managed effectively. Inventory on dated products should be first in, first out. Second picture is the August shipment, third picture the May shipment. I hope these issues can be quickly resolved, because they detract from an excellent product.

All that information is the same, and I still use and recommend the product. I'm now adding some information about product packaging that I should have included earlier.

By now I've purchased this product many times. The only criticism of all prior orders would be that the cap, although very firmly affixed until opened, didn't seal well. There was no seal on the jar mouth, only on the interior of the cap. That was irritating because it was wasteful and had to be cleaned up.

The latest package has a BIG improvement: the jar mouth now has a paper-and-foil seal, so NO product is wasted! Well done! Note to manufacturer: the seal didn't peel off in one piece, so you might want to experiment with other materials.

I like it far, far better than the big chalky Caltrate tablets or other calcium supplements. Pleasant flavor in warm water, takes the place of a cup of tea for me. More Hide. Zinc might be a trace mineral, but it's definitely not to be underestimated. You need sufficient zinc for everything from maintaining eye and prostate health to manufacturing new cells.

Your mood is definitely no exception here—did you know that zinc is mainly concentrated in your brain? Here, it helps to regulate GABA, that calming neurotransmitter I mentioned earlier, while playing a role in producing serotonin, alongside vitamin B6.

Unfortunately, zinc deficiencies aren't unheard of here in Canada, and they can lead to symptoms such as poor wound healing, low immune function, low mood and hair loss. One easy way to tell if you're zinc deficient is to look at your nails: small white spots on them could be a sign that you lack zinc!

As I've mentioned, zinc is a trace nutrient, so you only need very small amounts of it, around 8 mg to 11 mg a day. But if we only need small amounts, why are deficiencies so widespread?

It's due in part to how the body absorbs zinc. Generally, meat-based sources are more readily absorbed than plant-based sources, which can create problems for vegan and vegetarians.

Best food sources : Shellfish, lentils, hemp seeds, pumpkin seedseggs and potatoes. Iron deficiencies are extremely common, especially among menstruating women. This is extremely unfortunate, as low levels of iron are linked to a plethora of unpleasant symptoms, such as fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches and brittle nails.

What's even worse for your stress levels is the fact that if your iron levels are low, less oxygen-rich blood is being pumped around your body, which can promote feelings of anxiety.

How much iron you need each day can depend on a number of factors. Healthy men and women, for example, will only need 8 mg, while healthy pregnant women need a much higher intake of 27 mg.

The problem is that these figures can fluctuate, especially in the case of menstruating women, who usually have a higher demand for iron around the time of their period. Vegans and vegetarians, again, are at risk of a deficiency here, as meat-based foods generally provide not only more iron, but a more readily absorbed form of it, than do plant-based sources.

That's why iron supplements are becoming increasingly popular; however, as always, moderation is key. Too much of a good thing can be extremely detrimental to your body, so try to make sure you're taking a gentle supplement that's going to be well-absorbed by your body.

While Bio-Strath, on its own, doesn't contain enough iron to be considered an iron supplement, it does optimize the absorption and assimilation of iron from a normal, healthy diet and won't lead to constipation problems.

The 10 Best Foods to Help Fight Stress

Increasing demands and pressures from both home and the workplace are common causes of stress. Personal finances, family, and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle are among the top reasons Australian adults say they are stressed 4.

Stress relief can be practiced through deep breathing techniques, meditation, or other relaxation techniques. Regular exercise and a balanced diet can also aid in a healthy stress-relieving routine. Among the nutrients that can support our bodies as they deal with daily stressors is calcium.

Yes, calcium and stress do in fact share a link. Calcium can be consumed through calcium-rich foods like milk, cheese, and yoghurt. It can also be found in less commonly known sources such as firm tofu, fish, vegetables, and nuts 6.

In circumstances where you are not able to get enough calcium from food alone, it can be helpful to consider supplementation alongside a healthy diet. Calcium plays a vital role in muscle contraction, especially the regulation of heart muscle contractions 5.

Keeping your heart healthy is essential, especially as stress may increase the chance of heart conditions 7. Calcium also helps in neutralising the stress hormone cortisol, in the same way an antacid can help neutralise stomach acid 8.

Calcium helps neutralise the pH balance of cortisol, bringing our bodies back to a more neutral state. However, when the body does not get enough calcium from food, it takes calcium from the deposits in our teeth and bones to neutralise cortisol.

This may lead to weaker bones down the line. This is important because persistent stress may contribute to higher-than-average levels of cortisol, which may hinder our anti-inflammatory response, resulting in more infections.

Stress also reduces the body's lymphocytes, or immunity cells You can beat stress with simple, straightforward lifestyle changes and a healthy diet.

You may even opt for calcium supplements to support your goal of overcoming stress. Avocados are not only delicious mashed into guacamole or sliced and added to a salad — they also offer omega-3 fatty acids. Research has found that high doses of these essential acids may reduce anxiety. The possible superpower of avocados goes beyond their omega-3 fatty acids.

They also consist of phytochemicals, fiber, and essential nutrients. A review of 19 clinical trials and five studies found that eating avocados may improve heart health, brain function, gut health, and weight management. The researchers believe this is due to avocados having a relatively low caloric density and a low ratio of saturated fats to unsaturated fats, as well as being a good source of prebiotic fiber.

Additionally, one large survey of U. adults suggested that avocados have been linked to better diet quality and nutrient intake as well as a lower risk of metabolic syndrome, which is a group of conditions that include high blood pressure and obesity.

Fight stress and help prevent heart disease by adding seafood to your plate. Fatty fish include tuna, halibut, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, and lake trout, according to the American Heart Association.

You can also try omega-3 supplements in the form of fish oil , which can be found at your local drugstore or grocery store.

Calcium-rich foods are an essential part of a healthy diet for bone health, but this nutrient may also help reduce depression.

In a survey of almost 15, participants, symptoms of depression decreased as calcium intake increased. Milk and other dairy foods with calcium and added vitamin D can help muscles relax and stabilize mood.

One review even found that calcium may help ease symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Nuts are full of nutrients, including B vitamins , along with healthy fatty acids.

Meyerowitz says B vitamins are an important part of a healthy diet and can help reduce stress. Almonds , pistachios, and walnuts may even help lower blood pressure levels. According to a small study , walnut consumption among college students was found to have a possible protective effect against some of the negative impacts of academic stress.

Findings from one review suggested that magnesium benefits individuals with mild to moderate levels of anxiety, but more trials are needed before making this treatment recommendation across the board.

Another review found that vitamin C supplementation could improve symptoms of stress -related disorders, such as anxiety and depression. According to Harvard Health Publishing , probiotics can help boost the immune system, protect against harmful bacteria, and improve digestion and absorption of nutrients.

A study found that taking the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum may alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety, possibly due to a relationship between the gut microbiome and mood. Food and Drug Administration FDA and the pills can be more expensive than their food form, Figueroa says. Fortunately, probiotics occur naturally in food, too, and appear to be slightly better than the pill form, though both are efficient carriers for good bacteria, according to another study.

She also recommends yogurt and fermented foods, including kombucha and miso, a Japanese fermented bean paste that can be found in miso soup. RELATED: How Your Gut Microbiome May Affect Diabetes. As Figueroa mentioned, fiber-rich foods are gut-friendly and can play a role in lowering stress.

According to one review , a high-fiber diet may be linked with reduced anxiety, depression, and stress. A study of over 3, adults found an association between greater fiber intake and reduced psychological distress. In addition, there was a lower chance of depression for women with higher fiber intake.

To add more fiber to your diet, Figueroa recommends eating beans, green peas, berries , almonds, pistachios, flaxseed , sesame seeds, and lots of greens, like kale and broccoli. Whole grains are also fiber champs. A blood sugar crash can induce fatigue, anxiety, shaking, irritability, and trouble concentrating, according to the Mayo Clinic.
